Over the past five days, British brands have been showcasing their autumn/winter 2021 collections as part of this season’s digital-only London Fashion Week. It looks a little different than usual (there are no spectacular venues, no street style, no audiences whatsoever), but this does mean that the focus is solely on the clothes and creativity. There is certainly no shortage of creative imagination in this city of ours. If I were to sum up the season in one collective theme, it would be “all of the clothes we haven’t been able to wear for the past 12 months.” Think ball gowns, sequins, feathers, wildly impractical boots and skirt suits. These are outfits designed for a post-lockdown London knees-up, and I, for one, couldn’t be more excited.
While many of us won’t be wearing the tulle gowns and sequin mermaid dresses, there are some items that I am certain will translate into our wardrobes come September. After a year of joggers, we’ll all certainly be ready to dress up. After looking through all of the lookbooks, there are five trends, in particular, that I’m sure will have an impact on how we get dressed.
You don’t get much more British than tartan and checks, and designers such as Molly Goddard, Bora Asku and Colville played with red, heritage tartans. Kilts at the ready!
Shop the Trend:
Halpern Cropped Feather-Trimmed Checked Tweed Jacket (£1240)
Rosie Assoulin Checked Wool and Cotton-Blend Midi Skirt (£1175)
Cutout details have been bubbling up for several seasons, and it’s only going to get bigger for autumn/winter 2021. This black Eudon Choi jumper with cut-out details at the neckline is one of the items our team was most excited about this fashion week. Simply perfect.
Shop the Trend:
Ninety Percent + Net Sustain Cutout Stretch-Tencel Jersey Bodysuit (£65)
Monse Black Cut-Out Wool-Blend Jumper (£990)
Next party season will be an opportunity to really have fun with our outfits, and no-one does party dressing quite like 16Arlington. This feather-trimmed little black dress is as fabulous as it gets.
Shop the Trend:
16arlington Seymour Feather-Trimmed Satin Shirt (£695)
16arlington Mandrake Feather-Trimmed Satin Wide-Leg Pants (£695)
After a year of working from home in jogging bottoms, many of us will be craving tailoring and designers such as Eudon Choi and Emilia Wickstead have been playing with suiting. This Yuhan Wang floral-embellished skirt suit really has my heart.
Shop the Trend:
Prada Checked Wool and Cashmere-Blend Tweed Blazer (£2135)
Prada Pleated Checked Wool and Cashmere-Blend Tweed Midi Skirt (£1530)
When it comes to colours, there were lots of greens, oranges and reds, however, this soft icy blue seen above at Roksanda was the most dominant. Think Elsa from Frozen princess dresses.
